Since 1991 the companies of the Udmurt Republic have significantly expanded their international contacts. Every year Udmurtia increases its exports and the number of commercial partners in other countries. In total, over 1/3 of all products, manufactured in the region, enjoy demand far beyond the boundaries of the Russian Federation.
Thus, to stimulate international trade and highlight the importance of being competitive at the world market, the Ministry of international relations developed the contest "Best exporter of the Udmurt Republic". Any exporter of the region may apply for the participation and submit appropriate information on its export achievements to a special commission.
An award ceremony takes place on the annual basis, during which the prizes are granted by the top officials of the Udmurt Republic in accordance with the following nominations:
- "Best exporter of the Udmurt Republic"
- "Best exporter among the companies with international investments"
- "Best exporter of the innovation products"
- "Best manager in the field of international trade"
Winners of the contest in 2003:

JSC "Izhstal" - "Best exporter of innovation products - 2003";
"Holster" - "Best exporter among small enterprises - 2003"

Honorary diplomas were granted to JSC "Izh-avto", JSC "Izhneftemash", JSC "Izhevsk plasctics plant", JSC "Reduktor", JSC "Glazov plant "Metallist", JSC "Izhmoloko", JSC "Red star".
In 2002 the following companies were awarded at the contest:

"Holster" - "Best exporter among small enterprises - 2002"

Honorary diplomas were granted to JSC "Izhevsk plastics plant" - for the development of new markets and increase of export sales, JSC "Glazov plant "Metallist" - for the development of new markets and exports, JSC "Izhmoloko" - for the development of exports of food-stuffs.
In 2001 the following companies were awarded:
JSC "Izhstal" - "Best exporter of the Udmurt Republic - 2001";
JSC "Izhtel" - "Best exporter among the companies with international investments - 2001";
R.Abashev, general director of JSC "Wood-working company "Krasnaia zvezda" - Best manager in the field of international trade - 2001".
Honorary diplomas were granted to JSC "Izh-avto" - for the development of new markets, JSC "Izhneftemash" - for the development of exports of oil equipment, JSC "Kezsky cheese factory" - for the development of exports of food-stuffs.
