Nature of UdmurtiaUdmurtia is situated in the eastern part of the Russian plains, between the Kama and its right tributary - the Viatka river. The republic is located in the middle northern latitudes and far from the seas and oceans which makes its climate moderate continental with cold winters and warm summers. The coldest month is January with an average temperature from -14 to -15C. The warmest month is July with an average temperature of +17,5 - +19C. The territory of the Udmurt Republic covers over 42 thousand square km. and surpasses the area of such western European countries as Belgium and Switzerland and is approximately equal to the area of Denmark.

The main natural resources are timber and oil. There are 113 oil fields in Udmurtia. 96% of oil is sold outside of the Udmurt Republic. Annual production amounts to 7-8 mln. tons.

46% of the republican territory is covered with forests, half of them - the conifers. 2.8 mln. cubic meters are available for the industrial use. There are reserves of peat, nitrogen and methane, construction materials (quartz sands, clay, lime stone) as well as mineral water and medical mud.
